SusFon was established in 2020 as a non-profit organization that conducts business with altruistic or philanthropic intent. SusFon's vision is to assist communities working in collaboration with public institutions in a bid to improve their livelihoods and their right to basic services in a participatory and co-creative manner and to support these communities and institutions to address inequality by means of social, economic, and educational empowerment.
SusFon conducts business in Africa. The Foundation operates in close collaboration and cooperation with two sister organizations, Sustento Development Services (est. 2007) and Intuinnovate Pty Ltd (est. 2020). SusFon and our sister organizations share resources to effectively and efficiently deliver supporting services to communities and public institutions within Africa.
The SusFon team has many years of experience working in the biodiversity sector of Southern Africa. The team has been directly involved in the South African biodiversity sector through our work related to the sustainable and equitable sharing of benefits of these resources with local communities and traditional knowledge holders. Our team members were key in developing the Biodiversity Economy Strategy and the SADC Wildlife-based Economy Framework, both of which guide and steer the biodiversity economy of Southern Africa. Our team has worked in local communities, with stakeholders in the various biodiversity economy value chains, with the local, provincial, and national government, and with international organisations and donors.
